Online Electrical Engineering Degree
Electrical Engineering Careers

An online electrical engineering degree can be a great way to get electrical engineering careers started or get a promotion if you have already begun a promising electrical engineer job.

The career and income potential can be quite rewarding, especially within the right field, if you can leverage your knowledge to negotiate contracts or get promoted to higher management.

If you learn a foreign language, many times you can be hired to work in other countries, consulting on infrastructure work in developing nations.

If you like to meet people and travel, a technical sales job as a regional account manager or product sales engineer may be exactly what you are looking for. Electrical engineers in this specialty study their company's products to sell solutions to customers in power generation, aerospace, construction, healthcare, and general transportation.

Which electrical engineering schools offer an electrical engineering degree online?

An online electrical engineering degree, and engineering degrees in general, are few and far between. However, we have found some good regionally accredited online electrical engineering programs that require little or no on-campus labs.

The University of North Dakota Online & Distance Education is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The program itself is accredited by ABET, the accrediting body responsible for accrediting programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology. Note: UND online does require on-campus summer labs for up to two weeks each summer in North Dakota.

Stony Brook University is affiliated with State University of New York and is regionally accredited and has been for some time. The electrical engineering bachelor degree only covers the upper-level classwork for the electrical engineering degree, requiring the basic classes, listed in the "classes" section, to be taken before entering the program. However, once entered, there are no on-campus labs - everything is 100% online.

Choosing to complete an online electrical engineering degree can be a tremendous help in starting or advancing a promising career in many fields. You can compare the lowest 10%, the highest 10%, and the average electrical engineer salary with other engineering salaries at the Engineering Salary Table.
